Buy a USB cable.

try check the usb port. may be the problem start there?
SOMETIME THIS PROBLEM OCCURS IF THE INSTALLATION PROCESS IS NOT DONE PROPERLY.DELETE AND INSTALL AGAIN

Try installing the disc first, then plug within your printer/scanner. Make sure to turn it on while it's pluged in, so the computer and automaticly detect it.
